Galway Curate for Wexford Position

Galway Curate for Wexford Position

11 Oct 2002

Reverend Maria P. Jansson, until recently Curate of St. Nicholas Collegiate Church, Galway and Kilcummin Parish, Oughterard, has been appointed to be curate of the Wexford group of parishes with responsibility for the Kilscoran group of parishes (Killinick, Mulrankin, St. David, Bannow) in the Diocese of Ferns.

Reverend Maria was ordained to the Priesthood in Saint Mary's Cathedral, Tuam on Sunday, 26th May 2002. She was ordained a deacon on June 24th 2001 in the Collegiate Church Saint Nicholas’, Galway. Maria Jansson's recently deceased father hailed from Vasteras, 60 miles west of Stockholm, Sweden. She was reared in Cork, and spent most of her adult life in Dublin. Prior to entering training for the ministry Maria worked for 24 years as a religious educator and lectured in University College Dublin on the subject. For two years prior to ordination she served as a student reader in Howth, north Co. Dublin. She recently completed a doctorate from Trinity College, Dublin on how worship links with life. She admits that this has deepened her conviction that when we come together to pray in truth and love, God is with us in a powerful way.
