Connemara Sea WeekConnemara Sea Week18 - 28 October 2002, Letterfrack, Connemara Connamara Environmental Education & Cultural Centre has put together an exciting programme for this years festival. The highlights include the children's events and the Sea Week conference "The Awkward Voice" which takes place over the bank holiday weekend. Dorothy the celebrated pupeteer will travel from Dublin to kick off this years festival, with a scatter of shows for all ages in the primary schools. At night the box player Conor Keane whose album 'Cooleys House' has been highly praised will be joined by a host of musicians and singers for a night to remember. Fiddle workshops with the Kane sisters and a flute, tin whistle workshop will be a big part of Saturdays event as will Saturdays nights gig with Paul Gunning and Jimmy Fitz. Sunday 20th programme will be another mighty day for young people as this Book Fair will be opened by the ever popular Don Conroy author/painter and TV personality. There will also be lots of books for adults at this years fair as they say 'buying a book is a great way to invest in your child's future' Face painting, penalty shootout and welly throwing will also feature. The day finishes with a children's film and lots of music with the Kane sisters, John Og Connolly, Emet Gill, Jesse Smith and lots more. The bank holiday weekend hosts 'The Awkward Voice' the sea week conference what looks at some difficult questions facing us in Ireland and will feature Bride Rosney (RTE), Pat McCormack (farmer & Mullaghmore activist), Dorothy Cross (international artist), Robyn Roland (poet) Brendan Pryce (seal sanctuary) Dennis Halliday (ex Un official), Sean Tyrell (poet), Josephine Marsh (box player) Ritz Anne Higgins (acclaimed Galway poet). The whole weekend is wrapped in the best of music with Sean Tyrell, Sean Garvey, Mick Kinsella, Michael Hynes, Dennis Liddy, Chulrua, The Josephine Marsh Band and lots of local singers and musicians. |
