AMO Ireland establishes Financial Shared Services Centre in Westport

AMO Ireland establishes Financial Shared Services Centre in Westport, Co Mayo

19 Nov 2002

Advanced Medical Optics Inc. (AMO) has established a Financial Shared Services Centre in Westport, Co Mayo. The investment, which is being supported by IDA Ireland, will create 30 high quality financial services jobs over the next three years, with the initial recruitment well underway. The new Financial Centre, which has already opened, will serve as AMO's central office for Europe, Africa and Middle East (EAM) region, providing financial services support and co-ordinating key services and functions relating to the financial administration of the company. The company is also expanding its Dublin operations with the creation of a further 30 new jobs.

The Westport Centre will be responsible for financial planning, policy decisions and financial management for EAM markets, with members of the EAM decision-making team to be based in Ireland. Staff will be involved in providing accounting services, VAT management and accounts payable and receivable functions for the region. The operation will work closely with the existing AMO Financial Services Centre in Dublin. Together the Centres will provide key services to 13 new AMO sales and distribution units across the EAM region.

Making the announcement, the Tánaiste Mary Harney said, "this investment makes Ireland a key location for AMO Europe. The centralisation of services will allow Ireland to capitalise on opportunities arising from this expanding and highly successful company. Ireland was selected as the location for this centre because of the availability of highly qualified and relevantly skilled people, information systems, business knowledge, management skills and suitable premises in Westport."

Holger Heidrick, AMO Corporate Vice President, Europe, Africa and Asia Pacific stated, "we are pleased to have this partnership with Ireland and the IDA. The Financial Shared Services Centre is an integral part of AMO Europe and we look forward to recruiting highly skilled people from the area to fill our employment needs."

AMO Financial Services Centre in Dublin will also expand without IDA grant assistance. The expansion will add 30 new jobs, bringing staff levels to 65 over the next 3 years. This Centre has recently become AMO's EuroCentre with responsibility for Customer Care, Supply Chain Management, Treasury Credit Control, SAP support and Human Resources.

AMO is a global leader in the development, manufacture and marketing of medical devices for the eye and contact lens care products.
