'Ground' - New Work from Stoney Batter Studio

'Veldt' by Mairead O'Neill Laher

Following the huge success for the Ger Sweeney exhibition, Galway Arts Centre is delighted to open the New Year with this exciting painting exhibition of New Work from Stoney Batter Studio in Dublin, opening at 6pm on Friday 10 January 2003. The exhibition will feature works from Padraig Cunningham, Claire Halpin, Mairead O'Neill Laher and Linda Shelvin. Guest speaker at the opening is Julia Roddy, filmmaker and visual artist.

Stoney Batter Studio was formed in June 2000 with the aim of establishing a creative environment in which all members could pursue their careers as professional artists.

The artists involved have exhibited extensively in Ireland and abroad both in solo and group exhibitions. Padraig Cunningham, Claire Halpin and Linda Shevlin have exhibited together in several shows nationally, including exhibitions in The Model Arts and Niland Gallery in Sligo and Mrua Gallery in Clare, while Mairead O'Neill Laher has exhibited in Dublin, Chicago, Johannesburg, and New York. The studio exhibit as a group every year in the Stoney Batter Studio premises.

Although all painters, their medium is the only common factor as they are all dealing with different concepts and different ideas. Ground is an exhibition of new work, which marks the first time the four artists of Stoney Batter Studio have exhibited together outside of Dublin.

The exhibition runs until Saturday 1st February at Galway Arts Centre, 47 Dominick Street, Galway. Opening times 10am-6pm, Monday to Saturday. Admission is free.
