Energy Awareness Seminar at GMIT

Energy Awareness Seminar at GMIT

Sustainable Energy Ireland is on nationwide tour, with Galway-Mayo Institute of Technology coming top of its road-show itinerary.

From the logic of light bulbs to heating the home or office with wood chips, its all part of this Septembers energy awareness week.

Guest speakers at the public energy awareness information evening, scheduled for GMIT on Tuesday, 23rd September, include Robert Staiger, a solar energy specialist from Ennis, and Olaf Fitzsimmons, who specialises in financing wind farms.

And according to Kilcolgan-based energy consultant, Patrick Stephens, who will chair the energy seminar, GMITs efforts in promoting energy awareness in the workplace makes the college an ideal venue for the nationwide energy road show.

Its been hard to get groups like this together outside of Dublin, so it will be great for them to come and see the good work being done in this area, he remarked. Organisations here like GMIT have already spent a lot of time and effort examining their energy efficiency.

If we want to attract people who are interested in renewable energy, then this type of conference is useful, explained the energy consultant. For example, for people who are building houses, this is the future.

This whole area is getting more and more important, predicted the Kilcolgan consultant.

Kicking off in GMIT with a daylong information clinic hosted by Peter Keavney and staff at Galway Energy Agency, the awareness seminar culminates with presentations from five guests. Energy consultant, Patrick Stephens will open the seminar in GMIT at 6.30pm and introduce Pat OSullivan of Galtee Fuels, who plans to discuss home and office heating.

Also on the agenda is Olaf Fitzsimmons who will discuss Financing a wind farm. Robert Staiger will discuss The Complete Renewable Solution for your Central Heating and architect Matt Barnes will speak on Design for solar architecture. The first ever energy awareness seminar in GMIT concludes with a panellist questions and answers session.
