Newtown Nights: The Rothko String Trio

Newtown Nights: The Rothko String Trio

The immensely successful Newtown Nights Concert series at The Burren College of Art, Ballyvaughan continues on Saturday November 22nd at 8pm with The Rothko String Trio. This is the first opportunity for a North Clare audience to enjoy this vibrant young chamber music ensemble in the intimate atmosphere of Newtown Castle.

Rothko String Trio

The Rothko String Trio is an exciting new group of very experienced chamber musicians who are dedicated to exploring the expansive string trio repertoire. Inspired by the artist Mark Rothko, the trio draws on established classical repertoire, whilst providing a platform for the dynamic new music of contemporary composers.

The Rothko String Trio members have worked together in many different chamber music ensembles and projects. Cliodhna Ryan and Cian O'Duill are both members of the Irish Chamber Orchestra and have collaborated in string quartets and trios at the Chichester Festival. Clare O'Connell and Cliodhna have given many performances together with the chamber ensemble Chroma, which has performed at such venues as the Purcell Rooms, the Warehouse and the Bridgewater Hall as well as many festivals around the country. Working together as a trio, these musicians make a very rich and dynamic combination.

Their programmes span the entire range of repertoire from Mozart to the present day. By performing contemporary works alongside old favourites, the trio aims to bring modern music to a wider audience and interest people in works to which they might not otherwise be exposed. They are also interested in working with composers and being involved in the performance of, specifically, contemporary British works.
