language

Ireland had two official languages: English and Irish. Almost everyone one can speak English.

Common Irish Phrases

Go raimh maith agat (pronounced "guh rev mah aguth"): Thank you

Slán (pronounced "slawn"): Goodbye.

Sláinte (pronounced "sloincha"): Cheers (or literally Health)

Irish is not commonly used in major towns and cities, but is very much alive and kicking in some parts of the country called Gaeltachts which are mainly located along the west coast of the country.

A large part of the Connemara is a Gaeltacht region and you'll find the Irish language frequently spoken by locals.
