In the "Annals of the Four Masters" we find the following entry: "A.D. 1238, the Cloictheach of Annadown was erected." This is the latest notice of a Cloic Theach, "bell house" or round tower, erected in Ireland, and antiquarians have anxiously sought for it; but after a rigorous scrutiny on several occasions, we have not been able to discover the slightest vestige of any such structure in or about the ruins of Eanach Dúin; and the hypothesis that the foregoing notice might refer to a square belfry like that at Baile Chláir na Gaillimhe Friary, is quite untenable.
