The music of the ancient Celts has been all but lost except for a handful of
strange and beautiful fragments. Anúna was founded by the young Dublin
composer Michael McGlynn in 1987 to explore and redefine this music,
which has been a significant part of Ireland's rich and turbulent history.
Michael McGlynn set up the group primarily to perform his own award-winning
arrangements and original works, and he has developed a uniquely personal
musical vision for Anúna. In contrast, John McGlynn provides all the
artistic staging that has enthralled audiences world-wide, with the use of
cloaked, candle-lit procession, and his unique ability to adapt any space to
the special needs of the group.
The haunting sound-world created by Anúna breaks down the barriers between
the spiritual and the sacred, the real and the unreal, putting them very
firmly at the front of the musical renaissance now coming from the Celtic
lands.
This is Anúna's first visit to Galway since 1994. The concert venue
is
St. Nicholas Church, at 22:00.
Tickets 16 euro, (concessions available) from Mulligan, Middle Street, Galway.
