Hockey

Hockey is somewhat of a minority sport in Ireland although it is becoming more popular as can be seen by the fact that the Womens World Cup and the Mens European Championships were held in the past few years in University College Dublin.

In Galway hockey is played by 5 ladies clubs & 1 mens club. Four of these clubs are based in the city and one outside in Kinvara. These clubs cater for all levels from children to 'social' hockey players to more serious players. The Ladies clubs compete in the Connacht Ladies league aswell as the All-Ireland Senior and Junior Cups. Galway men compete in the Munster league aswell as the Irish Junior Cup.

Games in Galway are played on the astroturf pitch at the regional sports centre in Daingean and most weekends during the season (September - April) there are games there.
