Happy Birthday to Dublin Airport !

Happy Birthday to Dublin Airport !

Dublin Airport has reached another milestone today reaching its 65th birthday. The airport officially opened on the 19th January, 1940 at 9am when an Aer Lingus Lockheed 14 aircraft took flight from Dublin to Liverpool. More than 215 million passengers have travelled through the airport since then.

The new Collinstown Airport had just one flight a day in each direction unlike today where the airport has almost 500 flights arriving and departing per day!

Today, almost 60,000 passengers travel through Dublin Airport daily. More than 17 million passengers travelled through Dublin Airport in 2004 and passenger traffic forecasts indicate that the growth levels are set to continue this year with over 18 million passengers expected to travel through the airport.

Last year was an exceptionally busy year for airport with the launch of an additional 35 new routes/services. In all, 10 new airlines were welcomed to the airport in 2004. The airport now has a record 46 scheduled airlines operating to 104 destinations internationally.
