Draíocht - An exhibition by Paddy Lennon at Kennys

Draíocht - An exhibition by Paddy Lennon at Kennys

A painting by Paddy Lennon on exhibition at The Kenny Gallery from Friday 28 January 2005.

The distinguished poet, Louis De Paor will open a new exhibition of paintings by Paddy Lennon in The Kenny Gallery on Friday, January 28th. The show is called Draíocht (the Irish language word for 'magic') which perfectly describes his poetic observations of the Irish landscape, reduced to its very essence, uncluttered, mysterious, subtle, evocative. These are masterly birds-eye views, where the landscape is kept at a minimum and merely suggested by glimpses of bogland, rock, water, sky. His use of vibrant colour and magical light convey an atmosphere that is full of wonder, and contains no suffering or pain.

Paddy is originally from Dublin. He trained there, and in London, before moving to Conemara. He will be remembered for his series of charcoal portraits of characters in the film The Field, in which he himself was a stand-in for Richard Harris. Since then he has lived in Mexico and in Spain. He now resides in Co Wexford. He has exhibited all over the world, and his paintings feature in many important collections.

The exhibition runs until 17 February 2005.
