Fonn 2002 - Traditional Music Summer School
11th - 17th August
-
Concerts, céilís, sessions and workshops. The festival opens on
Sunday August 11
in the Crane.
Fonn 2002, presented by the Galway School of Irish Traditional Music, is the 4th annual summer school and features an expansive programme of activities ranging from instrumental, singing classes and master-classes, concerts, recitals, set dancing classes, céilís and a Hall of Fame Award. Each summer the school places special emphasis on a particular aspect of the tradition. The emphasis this year is on musical duos and this is reflected in the choice of tutors and performers. Fonn 2002 also addresses the flute playing traditions of Sligo, Roscommon and Clare and the singing tradition of Carna.
Fonn's programme of classes caters for the intermediate to advanced player and they are a wonderful opportunity for students to learn from the finest exponents of traditional music and song. It is intended that the student would experience and acquire a deeper understanding of the many rich & varied forms & styles of traditional music, while also being encouraged to further improve & develop his / her own style and repertoire.
